WHAT  ARE FILLERS? 

We use Juvederm and Restylane fillers, which are hyaluronic acid (HA) based.  Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally all over the human body- responsible for skin plumping and lubricating.  It is found in your eye fluids, your joints, so it is almost impossible to experience an allergic reaction.  All the lip fillers we use are FULLY REVERSIBLE. If for some reason you didn’t like the results, we can dissolve the fillers.

WHICH FILLER SHOULD I USE?

During our consultation, we will determine your lip goals, and choose the filler accordingly. 

 

HOW LONG WILL THE RESULTS LAST

Everyone is different, but on average the body reabsorbs HA lip fillers within around 6-9 months.  The rate of absorption depends on many factors-- the age of the client, their metabolism, the amount of exercise they do, if they are a smoker.

ARE THERE ANY RISKS

There are risks involved with any dermal filler injections, and that is why it is important to only trust licensed medical professionals.  At Essence Skin Spa, we regularly attend seminars and training courses to ensure the complete safety and satisfaction of our clients.  This is not a procedure that you want to shop around for the lowest price.

DOWNTIME

Most clients experience noticeable swelling and mild tenderness for 24-48 hours after the procedure, and residual swelling for up to two weeks.  Bruising is always a possibility with injections, though minimal Essence Skin Spa.

 

REDUCE RISK OF BRUISING  

• Avoiding blood thinning medication and supplements for one to two weeks before the procedure, UNLESS they are medically necessary. Blood thinners include: aspirin, NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Aleve, Motrin etc.), St. John’s Wort, Vitamin E, Multivitamins, Krill Oil, Fish Oils, Flaxseed Oils, Omega-3, Gingko, Ginseng, Garlic and Glucosamine . 

• It is also advisable to avoid alcohol for 24-48 hours before the procedure.

• Eating fresh pineapple for a few days leading up to the appointment- the bromelaine in the pineapple helps to reduce the risk of bruising.

  AFTER CARE            

• Any severe swelling, itching, redness, increasing discomfort, blanching, or discharge from the treated area should be reported to the nurse immediately, 406-422-2441, or contact your PCP.

• Cool packs may be used as needed, and you may take an over-the counter pain medication, but please avoid aspirin.

• Avoid touching (pressure or manipulation) of the treated area(s) for at least 24 hours following treatment.

• After Lip filler injections, minimize mouth motion (chewing, oral activities) for 24 hours to allow the product to settle into the tissues.

• NO straining, heavy lifting, vigorous exercise is advised for at least 12 hours after the treatment

• Vigorous scrubs, massage or aggressive exfoliation should be avoided in the area of treatment for 72 hours.

• After your injections you may note dry, itchy skin. Feel free to use Vaseline® or a moisturizer of your choosing to relieve this.

• Transient and intermittent use of an ice pack has been show to decrease discomfort, swelling and bruising. Please don’t apply an ice pack directly to the skin and please don’t apply for more than 5 minutes at a time.

• It is advisable to sleep on your back with your head slightly elevated for 24 to 48 hours post treatment to help minimize swelling/bruising.

• Small bruises may occasionally occur and are normal and expected. Feel free to cover these with makeup or cover up. They’ll resolve in just a few days.

• Avoid alcohol for 24 hours.

• It may take up to 2 weeks for all of the swelling and bruising to subside. If additional filler is desired in an area of previous treatment, we may ask you to wait until the two weeks have passed.

• Avoid airplane flights for 24 hours after treatment.
